Elon Musk Departure Requested by Majority in Twitter Poll

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and recent owner of Twitter, faced a poll on the social media platform asking if he should step down as head of the company. When the poll closed on Monday, over half of the 17.5 million respondents voted "yes" for Musk's departure. This is not the first time Musk has taken an unscientific poll on substantial issues facing Twitter, causing confusion and chaos under his leadership with rapidly changing policies.

Since acquiring Twitter in October, Musk has made a series of changes that have concerned advertisers and frustrated users. He has laid off half of the workforce, discontinued contract content moderators, and dissolved a council of trust and safety advisors. In addition, he has discontinued enforcing COVID-19 misinformation rules and called for criminal charges against Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top U.S. infectious disease expert.

These actions, along with his recent decision to block users from linking to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, and other "prohibited" platforms, have caused backlash and criticism from former supporters. In response, Musk promised not to make any more major policy changes without an online survey of users, including the question of who should lead the company.

The poll results, with 57.5% of voters requesting Musk's departure and 42.5% wanting him to stay, come after he acknowledged making a mistake in implementing the ban on mentioning rival social media websites. It is uncertain what the future holds for Twitter and its leadership, as there has been no immediate announcement from the company or Musk.
